The Financial Advocate

Welcome to the Financial Advocate Podcast - Formerly known as "The Special Needs Connection" & "Caring For Aging Parents." We found ourselves sharing podcasts to both shows so we decided to combine them into one podcast!

You will continue to find strategies, resources and connections for dealing with the emotional, physical, and financial challenges of aging parents and raising children with special needs. Hosted by Colin Meeks, a Certified Financial Planner focusing on Eldercare Financial Planning, Special Needs Financial Planning, and Traditional Financial Planning.

If you are caring for your Mom, Dad, or a special needs individual and could use a little help, this Podcast could be like finding gold! Each week we’ll bring you valuable content that may help you in your journey of taking care of Mom, Dad, and/or the individual you assist with special needs. From the “Big Picture” questions of “Where Do I get Started?” down to some nitty gritty details on professionals and services that you may not even know are available to help.

Every week we interview someone in our community that we feel may be able to help you or someone you know. Please check back often and be sure to subscribe on iTunes so that you’ll get our latest episode automatically. We know life keeps us very busy, so we’ll remind you when we’ve got something interesting to share.

This is a podcast interview with Colin Meeks and Dr. Susan Daniels from the NIH. Dr. Daniels is Director of the Office of Autism Research Coordination at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)/NIH and manages the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC), a federal advisory body that collects public input and provides advice to federal agencies on issues related to autism spectrum disorder. There are a lot of amazing resources that the NIH provides. Check out their websites and listen to the entire podcast so you can see how the public cam get involved. Also, we have one correction: the actual figure for children with Autism is 1 in 59 (podcast states 1 in 58).
